I have "tested" the SIM whilst overseas and operation is good. I am now back in the UK and wish to switch my number.
I have a PAC from SKY but but SMARTY does not recognise the supplied data so I cannot transfer my number. If I cannot do this I will not continue with SMARTY.
The inability to contact any type of Customer Service is a concern

The PAC you have, how old is it?
The codes do not last indefinitely, so depending on how long you have been "testing" the SIM overseas will depend on whether the PAC is valid.
If, as I suspect, the PAC has lapsed, it would mean YOU getting an up to date PAC from your old SIM, or contacting your previous phone service rovider for the PAC. Without that up to date PAC your previous number is no longer, and may not be retreavable.
You "tested" the SIM overseas; does that mean you activated a SIM and used a plan during that time?
Even with a valid PAC, you may not be able to port to a used SIM, therefore needing a newly activated SIM to port to

The SIM has been in use for a week. As it was working fine I requested a PAC on Sunday and applied it today when back in the UK as it cannot be switched overseas; after repeated attempts it failed to accept the PAC/old number combination.
you ask.. "You "tested" the SIM overseas; does that mean you activated a SIM and used a plan during that time?" yes it was good, that's when I decided to switch to SMARTY, but that will not happen if I cannot keep my number...that is essential.
there is nothing to indicate on the SMARTY website that there is an issue porting an existing number to an activated SIM.
On the basis that the PAC from SKY received on 17th September may be at fault, I requested a new one this afternoon. This too is rejected by SMARTY using the Iphone App and using the dashboard on my computer.

Good luck with your decisions and PAC. Any problems talk to Smarty via Webchat, and Sky.
This is th Smarty customers forum, populated by customers. If you don't want to accept good advice, that's your choice.

The coverage overseas (France and Italy) were both 1st rate. If they had not been, I would not have requested a PAC from SKY. That was the "test"

Just because the service at one place is great has no bearing on what the service/signais like anywhere else.
To think so is like buying a secondhand car because its photograph in the advert is good, but having mo knowledge of what the car is actually like.
But then it's your money, your decision. Let us know how you get on. It'll be a good laugh on you! 👍

the sim and coverage is fine. I have tested in UK and overseas and happy with SMARTY as a concept.
The only issue is not being able to port my old number.

Just a thought - Are you 100% sure you are inputting the PAC code correctly, and not perhaps typing 0 instead of O, 1 instead of I etc ?
@Strandloper is correct re coverage - Whilst I have been very happy with Smarty since I joined in June of this year, I flew out to Prague earlier today, where all I get when roaming on O2 Czech Republic, T-Mobile Czech Republic and Vodafone Czech Republic is Edge coverage, basically little better than 2G. My Czech eSIM on Mobil.CZ, an MVNO on T-Mobile, is giving me 5G everywhere, as I expected, as I am in a capital city in which there is even good corsage on the metro / underground railway.

Smarty DO have a customer support, BUT it is web-based in order to keep costs down (including to us). If you wish to contact Smarty you'll need to start a Webchat.
On another matter, you mention you "tested" the SIM while overseas. I seriously hope you are not expecting thrcoverage and service from Smarty to be the same. When overseas, the service/coverage is provided by other phone service providers that Smarty has teamed up with.
If you want to know what the signal quality andcoverage is like, do it for where you live/work/socialise.
