Do I have to do anything other than activate the SIM to use it. Apparently it is activated. But I have put it in a tp link router and nothing happening. I have put my o2 SIM in the router and all working.

If you have looked at your Smarty dashboard, in order to confirm that your SIM is activated, and you have bought a plan, which gives you a data allowance, then all you need to do is change the APN in your TP-Link router to ‘mob.asm.net’ and all should be well, assuming of course that you checked the coverage of Three, which is Smarty’s parent network, where you are trying to use the TP-Link router.
If you don’t know how to change the APN in the router, consult your manual, Google it, or contact TP-Link support.

Is it possible the TP-Link mobile broadband router you've got is network locked @Terence_2239906?
If this router was purchased second-hand, it might be network locked.
