Re: My Huawei B311 (4G) router has suddenly started receiving phone calls!
Thanks for the useful tips. As I (sort of) say in my post below, Smarty seem to be doing a lot of work on the masts etc (from a Status Check on my area) . Plus a Coverage Check reveals 3G is back on. Indeed, when I received a call yesterday evening the Huawei dropped to 3G. So it's difficult to test out any theories at the moment. One question I have though is about my Smarty SIM, which I bought a year or more ago. It came with the Huawei. The question is, "Does it need to have VoLTE switch on/enabled?". Perhaps that's the solution to my problem (which is that OTPs from banks, amazon, Smarty itself, arrive as a string of @s or other garbage).3KViews0likes1CommentRe: My Huawei B311 (4G) router has suddenly started receiving phone calls!
Probably best to ignore this thread. I've been checking the status of the network in my area over the past few days. One day it says it's working fine the next that work's being done on it. Sometimes it changes from morning to afternoon! So I've no real idea as to whether 3G's been dropped or not, and wonder if SMARTY know themselves. Having said that, when I make calls the (network status) light on my Huawei B311 changes from cyan (LTE) to blue (3G).3KViews0likes0CommentsRe: My Huawei B311 (4G) router has suddenly started receiving phone calls!
The plot thickens. Just tried phoning out (using the Huawei) but it didn't drop to 3G. I eventually got the engaged tone. However I then started fiddling with the settings under "Mobile Network > Mobile Network Searches > Preferred network Mode" I changed it from "Auto" to "3G only". The light on the Huawei turned from cyan to blue (3G) and I was able to make a call (to my voice mail and to myself. I didn't want to disturb anyone at this time of day). One thing. The time it takes before I hear the other end ringing seems longer than when I use the Tenda (which is 4G/VoLTE). Could it simple be that when the Huawei tries to connect to SMARTY/Three Network in 3G mode it insists on 3G (like any other phone that's not yet on 4G/VoLTE) and so the network has to drop to 3G? I mean, SMARTY/Three hasn't cut itself off from all phones that are still on 3G and/or 2G only, right? I'd be interested in what you think. One other thing though is I don't get data when in 3G mode. So the browser on my computer seizes up while I make calls. But that doesn't really bother me. Anyway, I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks (I don't make nor receive many calls).3.1KViews0likes3CommentsRe: My Huawei B311 (4G) router has suddenly started receiving phone calls!
Yes, I also think it won't last long. But time will tell. One thing though, is that calls are a lot lot clearer on 3G (the Huawei) than on 3G/voLTE (the Tenda) ! So, as you suggest, maybe they've reverted to 3G. Hmm, having said that. Looking on the box the Huawei came in it says, "HUAWEI 4G Router", "LTE 150Mbps | Wi-Fi N300 | Gigabit Port" And in the user manual I downloaded today it says... "The HUAWEI LTE CPE B311-221 is a Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless gateway for multiple users in household or small office environments. It enables users to access the Internet. The B311-221 supports 3GPP Release 9 with UE downlink/uplink category 4. The supported service functions are as follows: ..." Can't make head nor tails of that myself. Might try the Tenda later to see if it drops to 3G or not. Will report back later.3.1KViews0likes6CommentsMy Huawei B311 (4G) router has suddenly started receiving phone calls!
When SMARTY dropped 3G in my area my Huawei B311 router stopped receiving phone calls (and I bought a Tenda N300, which receives OTPs as a string of @s). This morning it is receiving calls. The light on the router turns blue which, AIUI, means it's dropped to 3G. What's going on? Anyone any idea? Anyway, I hope it stays this way. fuzzy. PS. Anyone want to buy a Tenda N300 router, going cheap?3.1KViews0likes9CommentsLooking for a router that works in an area where 3G has been dropped.
Has anyone, in an area where 3G has been dropped, have a Router that works with SMARTY (and has a telephone socket/port)? If so what make and model is it? Thanks. I have a Huawei B311 and a Tenda N300. The Huawei doesn't give me phone calls (it used to before 3G was dropped) but it does receive OTPs correctly. The Tenda gives me phone calls but OTPs arrive as garbage (so I can't log into SMARTY using it. I have to use the Huawei!) Any suggestions much appreciated. tia624Views0likes0CommentsRe: OTP message from amazon arrives as a string of @s on my new Tenda Router.
Indeed. But when I logged in this time the SMS message consists of a long string of @s, nothing else! The Huawei works okay regards SMS messages but my old landline hand set plugged in the Tel port doesn't work at all. So by swapping the SIM between the two Routers I can manage but am not keen on doing so for too long. Ii seems to me OTP messages sent by SMS are not the same as SMS sent by you or me, as the latter arrive okay. Anyway, thanks for your replies. Might be worth starting a thread on which Routers work in areas where SMARTY has dropped 3G, and how to fix problems like this? I'm off for an early night, to snuggle up and listen to the incoming storm.1.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: OTP message from amazon arrives as a string of @s on my new Tenda Router.
I don't have a phone[1]. To access the SMS messages I login to the router (that's the way it works on both my routers). When I just logged in to SMARTY I asked for the code to be sent by email as the SMS it sends is garbage, here it is "ᴧ㔏砺泚ॉꁛ᷾筁뙂ﲽ㹯䎄쓻༙뗇抑䴦⬽腁橓괋僋퉳ꊃ엸 ". [1] Actually I do but I don't use it.1.8KViews0likes2CommentsOTP message from amazon arrives as a string of @s on my new Tenda Router.
Due to SMARTY dropping 3G in my area I've just replaced my Huawei B311 4G Router with a Tenda Wi-Fi 4G VoLTE Router (Model 4G06v1.1). It works just fine bar for one thing. When trying to login to Amazon or a bank the OTP message they send me via text (SMS) arrives as rubbish! The SMS from Amazon is just a string of @s. Texts sent from friends phones are fine. Anyone any idea what's going on? tia, fuzzy.1.8KViews0likes4Comments
