Re: eSIM lack of support on SMARTY
WelshPaul As the iPhone 16 isn’t far off release now, rather than wasting time and efforts waiting for a maybe/maybe not and my next payment coming out, I’ve taken the plunge this evening and ordered an eSIM from IDMobile. I was very impressed with the speed of setup. My new service with them was up and running within 5 minutes of completion of the forms! So, I now have dual SIM service. I’ll port my number over in due course, but I just feel saga around eSIMs isn’t likely to be resolved with any real speed, given the track record on the discussions around this so far over the past few years… It is a real shame, because I would have remained with them, because otherwise the service I’ve experienced has been very good overall. I do hope SMARTY can resolve this matter and make their provision “future proof” for other customers going forward, but for me the current uncertainty around this is a real deal breaker.3.8KViews3likes0CommentsRe: eSIM lack of support on SMARTY
Yes, the hit will be small on the iPhone 16, but this is just one manufacturer… Google have done this, and many others are now starting to follow suit… so, it is a question of time before this does become a real problem for SMARTY. Most of the other UK budget MVNOs are now offering eSIMs with little to no price change. Call me a cynic, but with the timeline this has been a topic of discussion (years), I would beg the question that “cost” is the only factor in play here that is holding back eSIM provision on SMARTY. IDMobile seem like the best option to move to if SMARTY do not come up with a solution soon. They also run on 3, similar perks and costings and do offer an eSIM.3.8KViews1like0CommentseSIM lack of support on SMARTY
I know this topic has been raised numerous times on the Community thread, but I wanted to raise this again on the vague hope that SMARTY see this, and reconsider the stance of eSIM provision. I have been with SMARTY for quite some time and it works well with my Apple iPhone 14 Pro. I am considering upgrading my phone in September 2024 to the Apple iPhone 16, which if the rumours are correct so far…then this will be the one of the many “new breeds” of mobile i.e. WITHOUT a SIM tray, and so SMARTY will no longer work on it. I have messaged the technical team today to see if there are any updates on eSIMs …and the was given the same longstanding message that this“may” be considered in future. There are many MVNOs now offering eSIM options now…Lebara, Lycamobile, Spusu, IDMobile (Also, runs on 3) etc…so I guess I will have to move across to another provider if SMARTY are unable to provide this, which will be a shame, but this would be a dealbreaker for me once I do upgrade my phone. I do feel that eSIMs need to be brought up the list of priorities now for SMARTY, given manufacturers are now all starting to remove the SIM trays from new models…and other MVNOs are aware of this and starting to offer eSIM solutions.3.8KViews7likes4CommentsRe: Voicemail Greeting
You are correct. My reply was on the merely suggested work around of not having to record a full message, using just a “name tag” instead. Perhaps if there is an objection to actually speaking then use an AI bot to say your name and record this, or record a silence as previously suggested in a previous post on this thread?19KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Download speed, but only for short periods
Just an update on this. My data speeds have now generally normalised, however I do think something is a foot because my service has been a bit all over the place!! I work from home and my phone is generally in the same place in my home. The signal has been very variable 1-3bars. Sunday was 4G service only from lunchtime to around 1800?!…nothing on the network status checker. Tonight 1-2 bars of 4G…all bit random with no information?2.9KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Download speed, but only for short periods
I don’t have a VPN, well not on my personal phone. I have been chatting to SMARTY support this morning. was asked carried out the usuals, which I’d already done 1. SIM card take out, wait 5mins and off and on 2. Change to 3G, then back to 4G/5G…alas don’t have that option! 3. Toggle airplane mode on and off. Lastly, I was asked to reset the network settings…which appears to have improved things for the moment. Time will tell, will see how things are over the next few days2.9KViews0likes0CommentsDownload speed, but only for short periods
Anyone else having issues with getting consistent speeds? I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF2 (about 0.9mile away from a mast). I am lucky in that I can get 5G inside my home. It is usually around 100-200Mbps, so pretty decent. Tonight, I’m getting around 10 seconds of speed, and then it’s 5-10Mbps and it has been a similar picture for the last few weeks. If I turn on airplane mode on and off again, it’s fast for 10 seconds, then slow again. I’ve had an equally similar experience out and about at various locations outside of my home, speed but only for very brief periods. The Network status shows no issues. I’ve spoken to SMARTY and done the usual SIM removed, turn it off an on again…but still the same. It has only started doing this in the last few weeks…?!Solved2.9KViews0likes3CommentsVisual Voicemail
Any plans for Visual Voicemail for SMARTY and any other networks that use the 3 network infrastructure? Voicemail is quite 1990s in that it delivers a text with a just a phone number, so you have to dial voicemail in order to identify who the caller actually is? Most of the other networks in the UK now offer this feature (or hybrid notification by icon and caller info). 3 network in Hong Kong have visual voicemail, so why doesn’t the UK have this feature?Solved38KViews23likes44Comments
