@indogo Don't forget that 3G is being turned off. Make sure that your phone is compatible with Smarty VolTE: https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/8985136-checking-if-your-device-is-4g-volte-compatible

well if you are going to patronise me theres no point...

yes says 4g... perhaos theres an error in the apb setup.

or the 4g coverage map is an outright lie.

Literally nothing patronising in either of the replies to your post.. just two people being helpful.

@indogo  I am certainly not patronising you! A number of people have found that there phones are not compatible with Smarty 4G VoLTE and THAT is why I sent you the link.

I was trying to help you - but as you suggest, perhaps there's no point.

Ok it just seemed an odd thing to ask and the link for android simply says 4g has to be offered to be possible...it is and I have using it for months. I was wondering if some legacy setting might be causing a problem.

Also a tablet i have can use 4g and shows similar poor signal.

For the record the signal quality dropped some years ago when the 3g transmitter was removed and 3g was piggy backed into 4g which always was an ootion but had poor signal levels in the region.

Other phone users in the area get equally poor performance.

ok from reading other posts the service is poor in several areas and no gets a satisfactory answer..... note in my first post i stated i am using 4g    ...... more than 1 bar would be expected in an apparently well covered area.

my only reference to three 3G was that its coverage shown as was poor matching the area....this also shows that the info is false as the old 3G service always gave 4 to 5 bars and the transmitter here was removed several years ago.

if smarty cannot be honest with customers then progress cannot be made.

@indogo  To be fair, the Coverage Checker clearly states that it is only a guide.

It cannot allow for things like individual building quirks, congestion on the mast etc.

Also, Smarty is in the hands of Three and do not control things directly.

I think this comes back to the point that is often made in posts; the service is not for everyone and in certain areas there may not in fact be a service from any network for a variety of reasons.

Indeed the map appears to be on drugs though the 3G map paints a truer picture of the region....actually us locals accept that around here is pretty abysmal its just slightly grates that it is portrayed as rather good.....

The main bonus is that smart meters often dont work.

To be totally unbiased vodaphone coverage here is poor too.

As you say smarty is in the hands of three, I like the deal here generally and , well , its were i live and pros outweigh cons.

Sorry to get off on the wrong tack , just a certain level of frustration going on.

I actually wondered if I was missing something obvious technically.

@indogo  Actually, I just ran a check on the place I used to live in; the checker shows good coverage. In fact, the property was situated in a slight dip in the village and so coverage was not at all great; we had to run upstairs if the mobile rang so that we could take a call and have a conversation.

This reinforces the view that it is purely a guide. No network was likely to give a great coverage in the place in truth.

indeed...

this is a town of 25000 and rising population which used to give 5 bars on three untill about 4 years ago and now gives 0 to 2 bars so perhaps an update is needed.

@indogo  The problem is that you cannot sort out the topography of an area, nor can you get around large buildings with a lot of metal content.

I guess the drop in quality may be the result of congestion on the mast.

well removal of the mast due to a problem with its location (hospital closing down...it was at the highest point for miles) and the other one is now the only one and covers the area badly as lower down and to one side of the hill.

the 4G map shows coverage as it used to be.

I suppose i wondered if this area was every going to return to its previous good service.
