Afaik iPads don’t have calling option (yet) so wouldn’t show a number & if it does it’s for billing purposes only.

If you insert it into a phone does the number then show?
Have you checked under your own entry under Contacts?

Hi thanks for the input. Works ok in my phone come to the same conclusion as you that it recognises it as a tablet and not a phone. What a kerfuffle MSF also thanks for the input. A little guidance was all I needed

@ianstra1100 I'm not sure that I fully understand what you are saying here.
At a guess, I wonder if your device is showing the number originally allocated to the sim when you registered. It has not updated to the number you ported in from your previous network. A Network Reset in device Settings should cure it.

Sorry this is not the same as porting I'm using the new number from the SIM I was sent by SMARTY. I've tried resetting the network no cheese. I've waited for 24hrs for the system to resolve the issue itself ( as when porting) reset the network again just and no result it still says "unknown" number anyone any other ideas pls
Even though it shows unknown the SIM must be interacting since it downloaded 3.5GB to my tablet without it and deducted the data used from my allowance.

Sorry, but I don't understand why the number needs to show on the iPad.
When you check your account dashboard, does it show there?

@ianstra1100 When you log in to smarty.co.uk you should see 'Go to my Dashboard" in blue at top right hand corner - you can check your number there.
Did you purchase a standard smarty plan or data only? Just wondering if that could be a reason.
However, does the app call via a service that is provided? Should calls show as from your own number?

I've just realised that I need to check the number is present on the iPad because they are showing different aspects and whilst the phone is ok the iPad might not be. Will contact you later

Sorry that took so long just finding my way around the app. Yes the number does show.
I didn't order a data only card and looking at
details it allocated unlimited Tel and texts
Using a phone other than apple to monitor the system as I go. If I put the SIM on my phone should it work as other SIM and directly provide contact as a telephone or does it need to be activated there aswell

@ianstra1100 The new sim and plan would be data only if that's what you ordered.
As you say, it is a standard sim with unlimited calls/texts in the smarty plan.
I can see no reason why you should not be able to put it into any phone that is compatible with Smarty 4G VoLTE protocol and get it to work normally.
I am wondering whether the mobile number does not show on the iPad because the device does not have capacity to make calls. An internet search suggested that this may be the reason. I cannot check it because my iPad is wifi only.

Just checked on the iPad and it shows the correct number on the dashboard I'll try my phone later will report back
