Slow data uploading

Have just joined Smarty, and am astounded that I get 5G data in my house. I ran a speed test which showed 200+ mb/s (that's better than my broadband wifi connection), but only 1mb/s upload. Is there a reason for this stark contrast? Does Smarty operate uploading restrictions for some reason?

Hi DavidB-3335558,

Great question!

Like all networks, SMARTY canโ€™t guarantee 100% coverage or an entirely fault-free service. Some areas may indeed have better coverage with SMARTY than others, and factors such as the size and layout of buildings can significantly impact service quality, including indoor coverage.

Our network status checker will allow you to understand if there are any known issues or congestion causing the slow speeds: https://smarty.co.uk/network-status-checker

At SMARTY, we do not operate uploading restrictions. You may also find this help article beneficial! Network and service | SMARTY Help Centre

Hi Rachel, thanks for the links, although it does not explain why there should be such a big difference between download and upload speed.

I'll do another speed test at the end of the month if I've got plenty of data left.

@DavidB-3335558 On your home broadband, you would normally expect download speed to vastly exceed upload speed. I can see that the 1Mb/s is qa bit slow, but you wouldn't expect it to get anywhere near 200Mb - I understand that would only maybe happen on optical networks and that most people wouldn't require more than about 5Mb/s

Hi, I'm referring to my Smarty mobile data.

My broadband is just fine, 150 mb/s upload and download. It's a full fibre connection.

@DavidB-3335558  Full fibre - that explains the speeds. Bet it costs a pretty penny too! - certainly compared to a Smarty plan.
