Sim won't work in basic phone

I have a basic handset, with no Internet connection (think original Nokia style). I have got a smarty sim and it won't recognise it. So I got a new basic phone - still won't recognise it. I've ordered a new sim... same problem.  Does anyone know why it won't work? The phones are unlocked.

old basic phones normally use 2G, smarty, which runs on the three network does not have 2G because three has never had a 2G network

Your phone would need to be at least 3G capable to work with a SMARTY SIM @PheonaL_2290897.

And from 2025 onwards, your phone would need to be at least 4G capable.

Perhaps some basic handsets don't have 3G capability.

What phone do you have, is it 3g or have 4g also ?

I have the very same problem the smarty sim will not work in my basic Emporia Talk Glam flip phone In the paperwork it implies it will work with 4G network but it dosn't . I tried it in my nieces phone and it workrd ok . so it must be a compatibilty issue. Any help please

@SheilaR_3439719 It is quite possible that the phone is not compatible with Smarty VoLTE protocol.

Here is an article that may help: https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/8985136-checking-if-your-device-is-4g-volte-compatible
