can not make nor receive phone calls from home

I can not send nor receive calls from my Samsung SM-G390F nor my Samsung SM-T575 using the same SIM at my home location NN14 but can if I travel 6 miles away. My Sim works in another person's Motorola device, at my home location, and his lebara sim works in my Samsung devices at home. I can make and receive messages.

@petergr_1844587 That all sounds very odd, doesn't it?

If there is no signal at your home, then your friends phone with your sim would not work.

You say that your phone works away from home with the smarty sim, so it looks like that is also OK.

If the friend's Lebara sim works in your phones, it sounds like the phone is fine.

When using the friend's phone in your home, are you certain that it is not via wifi calling?

Not sure if anyone else has any ideas, but this seems quite baffling.

@petergr_1844587 Your phone (Samsung Xcover 4) is not compatible with Smarty's 4G calling. See this page for details.

The reason it will be working 6 miles away will be because that will be an area where Three have left some 3G coverage switched on for now, which your phone is able to use for calls. But they have turned their 3G coverage off across most of the country, meaning if your phone is not compatible with Smarty's 4G calling, you are going to struggle to make or receive calls in most places.

I suspect your second device (which appears to be a tablet?) is also incompatible, and is just not on Smarty's list of incompatible devices because they are only listing phones.

@SmartyTrousers  Thanks for the input. I freely admit that I know nothing about Samsung models!

Presumably, the phone won't work 6 miles away when they turn off all 3G then?

@MSF No problem (I hadn't seen your post before I replied to the OP) ๐Ÿ™‚

That's right, once 3G has gone it won't work 6 miles away either.

Having said that, once Vodafone and Three merge, it could be that Smarty customers' phones will then be talking to Vodafone's IMS server anyway (that's the server that handles VoLTE and WiFi calling), and Vodafone seem to have more of a standard setup than Three do, so it could be that phones which were previously incompatible with VoLTE on Smarty then become compatible.

Hi Peter,

my iPhone isnโ€™t making or receiving calls since 3/ smarty went down on 23/01/25.
I live in Manchester and it wonโ€™t work anywhere. I am now becoming very frustrated as smarty has said everything is back up and running? But my phone isnโ€™t?

can anyone help?
