My partner has Smarty, so I decided to join, NOWHERE was I asked for the referal link. I activate my sim and get a number, told that my old number will transfer sometime before midnight the next day, so how do i get told its changed over if I am out on a 5 hour drive ? so how does an emergency call come through if old supplier has stopped account ? and new smarty sim is not in the phone.

@MarkLee_3146799 The referral link is the URL you need to go to in your web browser in order to sign up and for your partner to be credited. If you signed up by doing that, the referral will have been automatically tracked. If you decided to sign up via some other means, it won't have been.

On the day your number transfers, two or three different networks will need to do some work:

  • the network you're joining (Smarty, in this case);
  • the network you're leaving;
  • the network your number was first on (which may or may not be the network you're leaving on this occasion).

Each of these parties will do their part at some point on the day of your number transfer. What this means is that there may be points in the day when no incoming calls work to the number you're porting in, or where incoming calls only work from some networks, or where incoming calls from some networks go to your old SIM while incoming calls from other networks go to your new one.

I would generally advise you to put your new SIM in the phone once the old SIM has been disconnected (it will go to 'No Service' when this happens, but do note that you would also see 'No Service' if you were in an area with no coverage).

The porting process may not be fully complete at that point, but if the old SIM has been disconnected, there's certainly no point keeping it in. Smarty will email you when the whole process is complete.

In answer to your question, if someone tried to call you in an emergency and your old SIM had been disconnected but you had not yet put your Smarty SIM in, you obviously would not receive the call.

@MarkLee_3146799 I do not understand why you did not put the sim in the phone as soon as it was showing as activated. Admittedly, it wouldn't have your usual number, but at least you could make calls and also receive the email telling you that your port process was complete.
