I have blocked a 0330 number on my phone as it is a spam number and I was receiving up to 13 calls a day. Today when i opened up my voicemail service I was informed that I had 14 messages. All from this number. I don't understand why, when the number has been blocked, they are able to leave a voicemail. The message reads something like "we have tried contacting you and are expecting a return call".
I am also not receiving notifications that I have received a voicemail. I have enabled text message alerts.
Phone is a Samsung A22.

@AndyBar_3004427 Because blocking a number on your phone just means the phone will immediately send the caller to voicemail instead of the phone ringing out - it doesn't prevent them leaving a voicemail. Smarty's voicemail service has no idea you've blocked the number on your phone.
Interestingly, on an iPhone, if you are with a network that supports Visual Voicemail (Smarty doesn't) or you have the new Live Voicemail feature turned on, it will allow a blocked number to leave a message but won't alert you about it, and will place the message in a special Deleted Messages folder so you don't see it.
Also some good advice in @MSF's link.
