Son's phone keeps running out of data

He keeps complaining he is out of data. He has no limits on the handset settings. But his Smarty account says 45.97 GB left of 50gb. 

Any ideas? It means he can't use his phone fully when out and about,which is annoying. Also, I'm paying for this and he can't use it.

It seems like he's just using up all his data, so he might want to consider upgrading to a plan with more data. He can check in his device settings to see which apps are using the most data, but unfortunately, SMARTY isn't able to access that info for him—we can only see his overall usage. 

Things like:

  • Apps running in the background
  • Automatic updates
  • Wi-Fi Assist(Some phones automatically switch to mobile data when Wi-Fi is weak, so even if you think you're on Wi-Fi, you might be using data without realising it.)

These can use up your data without you even noticing.

How to stop it:

  • Remember to turn off your mobile data when you're not using it.
  • You might want to disable background data for apps that don’t need to be online constantly.
  • It's a good idea to update your apps only over Wi-Fi.
  • Consider turning off automatic photo backups unless you're connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Take a quick look at your phone’s settings to see which apps are using the most data.
