It looks like you've submitted a STAC code instead of a PAC code.
PAC = Keep your number
STAC = New number, cancel the old one
Please reach out to your old provider and ask them to recover your number as soon as possible.

A. They are probably incredibly busy as people contact them about the outage in service.
B. It's not a 24/7 service.
