Disappointing signing up process

I tried to sign my wife up using a spare sim. I've been unable to progress the application as the system is awaiting a sim number. Live Chat says the sim number has been rejected by their system. This is despite her receiving an email saying the sim has been registered!
Not impressed.

Hi @MartynH_1929215, as @Chalkychap mentions here depending on how long you have had this SIM we may need to do some things in the background. Please speak to our team again and ask if you can allocate this SIM number to the account.

How long have you had the spare SIM @MartynH_1929215? - I suspect all the UK mobile operators have a use by date for ad-hoc SIM cards.
