Name me a *single * device that doesn’t support eSIM. I’ll wait…
The point about Smarty being a no frills network as a justification to not support eSIM is a total idiotic nonsense given a tonne of similar budget carrier brands support it.
@JP_15928 They are definitely not a gimmick if you need data at a reasonable price while roaming outside the EU.
I have used couple of different brands and found them exceptionally good.
I do think that they might prove to be cost neutral to companies - Three certainly offers both - but turning to sim exclusively would exclude a huge number of customers.
Your comment about letting ideas fade into obscurity is interesting. There were a lot of gripes about short code texts for a very long time and it looked like smarty were not going to move on that - but they did eventually.

Also, this idea has gone to 'investigating' status.
Been with Smarty for about 6 years using SIM for data in a cellular iPad. Now had to upgrade to a new cellular iPad which only takes eSIMs. So farewell Smarty. Sorry I recommended you to friends now using Smarty similarly.
@Lordvega The status of this Idea has been changed to "Accepted", so it looks like Smarty think it will be a good idea. Problem is, there's no real way of knowing when it will be completed.
I understand, from what I read, that the new iPhone 17 due out in September will be Esim only. Presumably that will apply to all future models too. While not everything is driven by iPhone totally, this may be the reason why they are moving on with it - before the end of September?!?!
you are not wrong, though. Usually when Apple do something the rest follow so if Apple make an eSIM only iPhone in the UK, If mobile networks want to keep up their customer base, then they will have to adapt. Much like had to happen in the USA when Apple brought out the eSIM on the iPhone over there
