You will need to load credit onto your account to pay for all usage.

If you are on a cruise line, you may find that the wifi is not too ruinous and you could call or message people on something like WhatApp (if they have the app too).

Don't even think of using a satellite connection on the ship if it is offered - prices are astronomical IMHO.

Yeah quite literally 'astronomical'! Money making machines - travelling in areas of poor coverage therefore the operators are paying 'more' to get a signal so up the call rates, specialist equipment installed therefore added cost to customer, sometimes they have a limited number of calling minutes per day so again if you exceed that then 'premium' rate. Don't go anywhere near those satphones! 😁
