I wonder whether anyone has the above-mentioned issue whereby despite I have done everything possible, I could not get it connected.
That includes
1. Removing the sim card, clean & subsequently replace it with a new sim card
2. Restarting the phone
3. Toggling with the flight mode on & off
4. Phone software update
5. Resetting the phone & ensure the phone is set in correct network mode
6. Checking the APN
7. Checking the network coverage
Due to the above, I can only use wifi and no mobile data.

Smarty showing as network chosen on the phone? i.e. automatic network selection.
When you say wi-fi, do you mean that you are using broadband wifi in your home?
