Hello, on the smarty website its stated "SMARTY is a mobile service that's just for consumers and is only intended for personal use. We don't offer any business plans, so we can't issue VAT receipts or invoices. If you need a mobile service that you can use in a commercial capacity, you'll need to look at other service providers."
Although Smarty doesn't offer business plans some individuals are required to provide the receipt/invoice to claim back or to provide proof of address etc, other operators like GiffGaff offer the ability to download an invoice in pdf format.
Could smarty do the same?

@BigDealsNinja You would need to contactvthe company directly, but I can't see them changing things unless there is huge demand.
In general a company only needs to provide VAT receipts to another registered business.
I'm also not sure how you can apportion the VAT on an individual's account between business and private usage given that it is all-inclusive calls and texts and you cannot say how much data was used on business.

Hi, I have a similar query. My employer will pay so much towards my mobile bill if Ic an provide a receipt or invoice. Has this been made possible yet? TIA

Not yet @Starb7.
SMARTY services are stated as being for consumers and only intended for personal use, hence it's unlikely SMARTY will ever provide an invoice / receipt for a business expense claim.
You might need another service provider, if you want to get a monthly bill / invoice / receipt.

No worries, I'll just do a Screen Shot. Cheers

Not sure if helpful or not, but when paying with paypal, when payment comes out you can go into the paypal transaction and it details the amount taken in invoice style format (which I then print to PDF). NOTE; it shows £0 of VAT still...which is a little odd, but hey ho.

@IanSamp_2867879 When PayPal makes a payment to Smarty, is there any VAT applicable?

@IanSamp_2867879 As far as I am aware, PayPal counts as a financial service and are paying Smarty what they claim but PayPal are not charging VAT and therefore will not show any. It is only Smarty who are charging the VAT but they are not required to supply a VAT invoice as they are not dealing with businesses, only consumers.

This is very awkward.. the consumer is the one paying the VAT and if we require an Invoice we can't get one because we are just consumers and not a VAT-registered business!? There is something very odd about this!

@AngeloDu_961109 There really isn't anything odd about it.
You have access to Smarty's VAT reg. no. at the bottom of the main web page.
A business supplying consumers is not required to issue a VAT invoice. Don't forget that a number of businesses that you deal with may in fact not even be registered for VAT if turnover is £90k or less.
If you need proof of spending, then (as I suggested on another post I think) you can view your details of spend, as well as calls made, and then screen grab them.
