Only getting 4G in a 5G area

Using a Sony Xperia 1 V and only have ever had 4G despite being in a 5G area. Is there a trick to activating 5G on a Smarty sim?

@pollo  No trick on the sim, but you may need to check that phone has allowed all connections on 4G or 5G.

Also, if the 5G signal is weak, the phone will default to 4G...or even 3G if things get tough (saw that last week while out)
