Really disappointed in the Smarty service. Very slow ping in the UK, and unusable abroad. I went to France for a week recently, no service whatsoever, and no (easy?) way to activate roaming. I also purchased a £5 EU data add-on which changed nothing, my phone was unusable for a week. Thinking of swapping back to traditional networks now.

@PHI_2829338  Did you check the APN setting before going?

Did you change your phone from automatic network selection to manual so that you could try each of the networks available?

You normally would not need to activate roaming in any other way.

If settings and network were not correct then any add on would not work either.

There is no EU data add on for £5 that I can see - check the Price Guide carefully.

Well done @MSF !

You continually answer these questions from ‘numpties without a clue’, who must surely struggle in daily life !

The level of ineptitude I see on this forum and others is astounding ! Some people really would be better off with tin cans and a piece of string, certainly when overseas, having no clue to set their phones up for use abroad, with a simple APN change !

I still maintain that its value for money pricing is Smarty’s achillies heel, as it attracts clueless people.

What a horrible reply from a really horrible person. We are pensioners who changed networks and just wanted to double check. So thankful 🙏 we don’t know you personally 😡

@KarenMa_2433997  Not sure how what you have said relates to the original problem posted.

A. What relevance is being a pensioner? So am I, but it doesn't give me any super-powers.

B. Not aware that you were trying to double check something.

C. Not aware that my reply was horrible - it was a series of questions and facts which attempted to get to the root of the problem in order to HELP.

The horrible person comment was definitely not aimed at you @MSF it was certainly aimed at me. Oh well.

We see this every day on this forum, and you have the patience of a saint !

Yet again, we have people buying a Smarty SIM card, because of its cheap price,  without doing any research into the service and how it works,  overseas, and blaming smarty for their own ineptitude!

We repeatedly see the following :

1, I can’t set up my router, as I want to use a mobile phone service as a replacement for mobile broadband.

Smarty of course specifically advise against this, certainly for sustained periods of time.

2, My phone doesn’t work abroad, I have no clue how to set up it up, but I am going to blame Smarty ! (Smarty need to change SIM card packaging, to let people know that the APN for use abroad needs to be set to ‘mob.am.net’)

3, I can’t get the adult content bar lifted.

4, I can’t activate the Smarty SIM card in my Tesla, Jaguar, Mobile Home, Touring Caravan.

5, There is no signal on Smarty where I live / work / socialise, I didn’t bother to check the coverage in the places where I need it, due to my own ineptitude, but I am so disappointed in Smarty !

Again, the horrible person comment was not aimed at you, St. MSF of Smarty, but me 😉
