Data only sim

I have recently moved to a temporary address while my house is being renovated. I bought a data only sim as I have no broadband infrastructure at the property. The signal is terrible, could this be the old iPhone 7 I have popped the sim in?

No, the iPhone 7 supports all of the 4G frequency bands used by Smarty, so that shouldn't be a problem. Obviously you won't be able to use Smarty's 5G signal if it's available there.

It may just be that Smarty's signal isn't great there. Check Smarty's coverage map and network status checker.

Yes I’ve done that too and says there are no issues. Thanks for the reply

Hey  AJWilli_73

If you haven’t already done so, you could try the following to potentially regain a connection;

  • Restarting your device and/or resetting your Network Settings (this does not affect your device storage, apps, pictures, etc.). This will refresh your connection to the serving site, prompting a stronger signal.
  • Toggling Airplane Mode/Mobile Data off and on. This essentially resets the IP connection, establishing a fresh new connection once linked to the network – this will prompt your device and SIM to connect to a stronger signal.
  • Please try your SIM in another device, to confirm that this is not a handset compatibility issue
  • Check that your device is compatible with VoLTE. Here is a guide to help you confirm this with a list of device which are not compatible. https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/8985136-checking-if-your-device-is-4g-volte-compatible
  • You can remove any saved APN credentials, restart your handset and then re-add the required APN if your device doesn’t seem to automatically connect to a strong network signal – please find guidance on the correct APN set-up via the following link: here
  • Make sure VoLTE is enabled, use the steps below. Settings> Connections > Mobile Networks > Toggle VoLTE button to ON to enable
    • Resetting your network settings will remove all Bluetooth pairings and stored Wi-Fi networks.
    • Open Settings and then tap General management.
    • Reset, and then tap Reset network settings.
    • Tap Reset settings. You will prompted to enter your PIN or password to continue if you have one set.
    • Finally, tap Reset.
