Can't get rid of temporary number

Temporary Number Issue

Along with other people I cannot get rid of the temporary number issued during the change over from O2. This has become quite an issue with some of my contacts. I can receive their messages but they can't receive mine. They say my original number says that it is unobtainable though. My phone is Android.
