On short trips, pack light, when taking hold luggage, split you clothes between 2 suit cases, just in case one gets lost. And when going through security, make sure you are organised with liquids in plastic clear bags and listen to the airport staff's instructions, nothing worse than queues because travellers haven't been organised. Always check your flight is on time and get there in plenty of time.

Too much luggage for a carry on bag? Get a vacuum bag or two. Fill with your clothes, get the hoover out, suction up the air and hey presto loads of room in your small bag!!

Make sure you purchase travel insurance, as we missed our flight on our 1st family holiday abroad to Malta and had to pay for another flight there, but we were reimbursed by the travel insurance company after claiming!
Also, put your passport, phone and essentials in a small, strapped bag that you do not take off until you arrive at your destination, as I forgot my handbag at the ladies room in Dubrovnik airport on another family holiday abroad, which had my medication and smartphone in it and was super stressed out and suffered from insomnia all throughout the holiday until I got my handbag back when we returned to the airport at the end of of holiday!

When using the easyJet / Ryanair under seat cabin bags, buy a set of small / medium vacuum bags for your clothes , this leaves plenty room for footwear & other sundries, & when you are heading back, just borrow the cleaners hoover .

Have an itinerary but keep it flexible there’s always going to be delays especially if you’re on the move. Pack good walking footwear and a portable power supply and travel adapter.
