Book a all inclusive hotel (some are the same cost as none all inclusive) then eat out if the food at the hotel isn't brilliant  this way all the drinks will not cost any more.

On city or town breaks, don't stick to the popular tourist haunts.

Turn down side streets and wander at random to get a real 'feel' for a place and to find cheaper places to eat and drink!

I always travel with a small electronic  luggage scale to avoid dramas at the airport as I like to bring back traditional food and other local products as gifts.

If planning to travel using a budget airline - Easyjet, Jet2 or Ryanair to name 3, always book as early as possible because the more full the flight becomes, the price of the seat goes up.

Before you go, download Google maps for the area you are visiting so it will still work even if you can’t get a phone signal. This can really help whether you are just using your phone to find your way on a scenic walk or using it as a satnav.

Always make full use of reviews of a city/resort/hotel/restaurant before you book.  This may sound obvious but some people don't do their homework and eventually find out the hard way.  Don't just look at the good reviews to justify your choice.  Also, you will learn to filter out some of the reviews that don't quite fit with the rest.  Some people are unrealistically picky and will always find fault.  I always follow my own advice and have never been disappointed.
