Crossing in and out of Switzerlandโ€ฆ ๐Ÿค”

Probably a daft question as Iโ€™ve read the tariff details , having realised Switzerland isnโ€™t on the covered plan as outside EU etc .. Iโ€™ll be skiing in Ischgl,Austria next year .. and will cross in and out of Switzerland on various pistes through the week โ€ฆ if I do nothing and donโ€™t buy an add on (not interested in buying the add on) .. will my iPhone connect and cost me regardless .. or will it just not work in Switzerland (fine by me - I will just be out of touch whilst over the border) โ€ฆโ€ฆ (I know I can use whatโ€™s app when on WiFi ) .. thatโ€™s unlikely to be available on the slopes though ๐Ÿคฃ..and  Iโ€™ve also read I can receive free txts as well in Switzerland)

I just want to ensure I donโ€™t end up with a large bill - I also donโ€™t want to have to constantly switch roaming off and on etc unless I have to (cold fingers ๐Ÿคฃ

Appreciate any constructive comments thanks !

@AlNoMullarkey You will definitely NOT end up with a large bill under any circumstances. This is because Smarty does not operate on a 'bill for service used' basis.

You purchase a Smarty plan by paying up-front.

Any chargeable service comes out of credit that you buy as an add-on, again up-front.

If you have no credit to pay, the service will not work - you normally get a message e.g. this service is not available.

If you put your phone to manual network selection when in Austria and choose a local network, then it won't pick up any Swiss networks - that may make it easier for you.
