Can I make a call and send  a text to Europe from the UK with Smarty on a normal plan?

No, you need an out of plan add on :

Prices are competetive though.

That said, if you are calling friends rather than businesses, then Whatsapp offers free voice calls, video calls and texts over mobile data or wi-fi.

I’ve tried to call a mobile number in France. I purchased  an out of plan add  on but it still says ‘you do not have access to this service’   The help bot was useless as were the humans I finally got to talk to who suggested I turn my phone off, remove SIM card

I purchased  an out of plan add  on but it still says ‘you do not have access to this service’   The help bot was useless as were the humans I finally got to talk to who suggested I turn my phone off, remove SIM card and then replace it. Still no joy. Any ideas?
