Travel light, heavy bulky luggage ruins any trip. Also absorb local culture: food, art, architecture, language. Use public transport and try and speak little of the local language, it is always appreciated.

Put big stickers on your case to make it easy to identify. You may think your case is unique but it won't be.

Get a £10 or 10gb data add-on before you go. Great for peace of mind and it's yours until you have used it.

When travelling abroad, if safe, walk away of the touristic areas when going for lunch or drinks. Less than 5 minutes away from this areas you can experience the real food and environment of the country you are visiting

First of all Smarty is the best SIM provider, period.
What I normally do when going on picnic, if I want to keep something fresh and cool. Is get a foil tin box fill it up with water about 2 cm and then put another foil tin with whatever food you want and place it in the box with the ice sheet, that way all your food will stay fresh like pasta or salad.

We have two credit cards from two totally separate companies.
When we go on holiday I carry one of the cards and my wife carries the other.
If one of the cards is stolen then at least we still have one working credit card to continue the holiday while we work through the process of reporting the other one.

Take hand luggage only and then roll your small clothes up inside a neck pillow (taking out the foam). Then walk into the plane with the neck pillow round your neck containing extra clothes that won't fit into your hand luggage 🙂

Ask a local where they would choose to eat in the place you are visiting. I've ended up having some memorable meals off the tourist track as a result.
