Re: Replacement sim
Well Michael29101950, what you posted back in 2023 is now "rubbish" as you so rudely put it. If you order a replacement SIM today, Smarty will deactivate your number immediately and you will not get re-connected until the replacement SIM arrives which is minimum of two working days. Obviously if your SIM has been stolen, lost or simply dead, immediate deactivation is fine. However, if your SIM has simply stopped making and receiving calls (VOIfailure) but texts and data still function which has just happened to me and apparently to many others posting to this forum, having my SMS texts barred for two days is an additional nuisance on top of the phone failure. In today's world, SMS texts is the preferred way by which verification codes are sent by almost everybody, so not being able to receive SMS for a minimum of two working days is an absolute nuisance. Smarty's system for SIM replacement is designed only for a situation where the SIM has been stolen or lost. Unfortunately, Smarty's system is not flexible enough nor is their AI intelligent enough to cater for a situation where a replacement is being required because the old SIM is partially or intermittently faulty. There are a numerous manufacturers of SIMs. Service providers need to be aware that some manufacturer's SIMs do fail after a while and that SIM failure can easily lead to loss of a customer. They should therefore have systems & procedures in place that caters for situations other than theft/loss and stop assuming that it's the fault of the phone or its settings or switching off of 3G or whatever. Or maybe they should simply send out new SIM cards every 4-5years given that typical life expectancy is only 5 years.2.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: App and Website login constantly asks for verification - never remembers trusted devices
Hi davey_lad. I know its an old post but I'm adding my penny's worth which no doubt is shared by many Smarty users who have tried to contact Smarty. Other service providers who have real humans rather than chat bots manning their helplines only require minimal but obviously necessary security verification. Smarty, like many other budget providers, unfortunately rely entirely on systems designed by IT experts, who unfortunately, often put security before ease of use. Password & SMS verification code is required just to log onto your account just like a bank or a payment service. If that wasn't overkill, when you start a web chat you need to confirm your birthdate, post code even the last payment amount. Those in charge at Smarty must think they are running a bank or maybe they are just letting their security gurus run amok. In any event, until the management at Smarty come to their senses, be prepared to waste time repeatedly entering your multiple verification credentials just to get any communication started.3KViews0likes1CommentRe: Ublocking adult content
Why waste time and effort trying to unblock adult content, unless you want Smarty's servers to keep a record of what you've accessed on the net. Install a good free VPN like Proton or Windscribe or Opera browser with VPN and Smarty will not be able to identify what you are accessing.9KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Not being able to make or recieve calls
Had the same problem with my Xiaomi. The problem is nothing to do with whether Smarty has listed a particular model or not as some users seem to think. Provided that the phone is voLTE compatible it should work as it did on my Xiaomi for 5 years. Then it stopped making or receiving calls, but texts could be sent or received and data worked fine. Tried the Smarty SIM in a friend's Samsung and all worked fine. Thinking that there was something wrong with my Xiaomi, wasted time doing a complete factory reset but to no avail. Then wasted money buying a new phone. The Smarty SIM worked fine on the new Motorola for a few days, then stopped making or receiving calls but texts/data ok just like on the old Xiaomi. Conclusion, the fault is in the SIM chip and it appears to be an intermittent problem. I don't know where Smarty buy their SIMs from but there are several manufacturers and obviously the one that made mine needs to be held to account. Will obviously ask for a replacement SIM from Smarty but in case they disconnect me while waiting for a new SIM, I've signed up to both Asda and Lebara. Their SIMs work fine on both the old Xiaomi and new Motorola but then again, they too may fail after 5 years.7KViews0likes4Comments
