Day 24 IMS REGISTRATION - AUTHORISATION NEEDED
I joined Smarty in February.
In a few days time it will be one month being with Smarty.
During that time no problem with data.
I am on an unlimited plan data, calls and text.
Not getting calls or text.
Only had the service (call/text) for two days so far.
That is not an unlimited service.
I am not registered on IMS.
IMS registration is needed.
IMS needs to be registered on my phone for VoLTE (Voice over LTE - making and receiving a calls) Wi-Fi calling and RCS messaging to work.
Any Smarty Customer having any issues with calls or text it. This may be your problem?
To anyone at Smarty who can rectify this for me one day soon - I'd be very happy.

I contacted customer support about IMS Registration as I needed it so my iPad could make calls through my iPhone. Didn’t think to check for this with Smarty. So after 3 hours of troubleshooting, I contacted support, and they stated ‘I have checked with my back end team and the IMS registration is not something that we can enable at our end.’ So due to this, no matter how hard I try to get my iPad to work through my iPhone for making calls, then I will never be able to on Smarty. I surmise Smarty is Three’s ‘No Frills’ provider, so advanced options like this are turned off as it might be an expense for the carrier to have it switched on as using calls is high capacity on their network and they try to limit them. For example, we have to answer after 30 seconds or they cut off. We are unable to lengthen the duration of the time we have to answer. So maybe find a more expensive carrier where these advanced options are activated or stick with the fact Smarty doesn’t support it. As a side note I can do text messages using my iPad through my iPhone so they might have SMS Registration activated, but this is cheap. I asked the advisor to pass onto their back office team that. They need to look into IMS Registration for their customers but I don’t think it’s going to happen. Hope this answers people’s questions about the IMS Registration and the lack of it through Smarty as their carrier. Try EE if you need it. My iPad happily did calls through my phone on their network.

Victori_2265930 Are you using Smarty for some commercial purpose - you talked about having to answer within 30 seconds.? Smarty isn't intended for commercial use - it's in the T&C's and you are correct in saying that it is a 'no-frills' network.
When you send text messages via your iPad, is that via iMessage - i.e. only to other iPhone users? Does it really work for non iPhone numbers, because I have not been aware of that before. I do sometimes send a text via an iMac, but that only works for iPhone numbers and is actually using data rather than text.

If you read my message properly you will see I was pointing out a reply from the web chat support team. The issue does lie with Smarty not activating IMS for their users. So I have already been to them. Maybe you ought to read people’s messages properly before posting an irrelevant comment. I am a personal user and I was pointing out that Smarty is a cheap no frills service told to me by the fact that they won’t allow us to increase the ring time beyond 30 seconds. When I was on EE personal (not professional) service I could have an incoming call ring time of up to 2 minutes. I find it hard to get to my phone in 2 minutes with my Autism and not having the IMS Registration activated means I am unable to answer calls through my Apple Watch I have on my wrist. Technology is my forte people come to me for help. The person on web chat was trying to direct me to see if VoLTE was active on my phone! (I told them I had a fully updated iPhone 16.) If his technical knowledge was any good he would know that the iPhone 16 doesn’t have the option to turn it on or off. It’s on. All the time. Since 3G was discontinued, VoLTE is a requirement to make calls from the phone itself work, so the iPhone 16 fully updated doesn’t have or need the option to turn it off. So after they insulated me by trying to tell me my phone couldn’t be updated as it was missing the option, I told him to answer my question if IMS Registration was active and said goodbye to them.
In conclusion, without IMS Registration being activated on a carrier’s network (we don’t have the ability to activate this on our iPhones it has to be activated by the carrier), then through calling, ie trying to use an Apple Watch or iPad through our phones to make and receive calls is not possible. As in my previous post, i surmised due to Smarty being a no frills cheap option, it’s an expensive option they have chosen to leave turned off. Even their back office didn’t have the ability to turn it on for me. Other carriers like EE have it activated for their personal (not business) customers so Smarty should too.
Going back to EE for me might not be a bad idea. Longer duration for their personal customers to answer their calls, and IMS Registration is activated so I don’t have to try to find where my forgetful Autistic memory left their phone in the 30 seconds Smarty will allow us for it to ring before cutting the incoming call off. I will have 2 minutes which is doable for me. Went for Smarty as its Benifits package seemed good. It’s now looking bad.

Victori_2265930 I think that you have misread Nathan 's reply which was to an earlier post.
I also replied to you but clearly I misunderstood what you were trying to say about the 30 seconds.
As you say, some features are important to you and Smarty does not offer them. In truth, a number of people do seem to find that and so it's a good thing that nobody is tied into a long contract.

I have been having similar issues too. What phone do you have?
