No service or roaming in New Zealand

I am unable to roam or receive/make calls or texts in New Zealand with Smarty. "No Service" and zero bars. It's been a real pain as I have been unable to sign into key accounts that only use SMS 2FA. This has been the case over multiple weeks and I have been through all of the troubleshooting steps with support with no luck.

I have an iPhone 17 with up-to-date software.

Has anyone had any luck in New Zealand (or a similar experience / suggestion for fixing it beyond what Smarty support suggests)? Unfortunately I'm going to have to change providers if I don't find a solution as I am in New Zealand annually and can't risk this happening again.

    Thomas_72921​ A couple of points here.

    Have you set APN to mob.asm.net in your phone?

    Have you done manual scan for available networks rather than automatic?

    Do you have sufficient add on credit to pay for data at 10p per megabyte?- That is £102.40 per Gigabyte!

    Have you considered an international esim to provide data? I have successfully used one in a number of non-EU countries and it is vastly cheaper. As an example, I use Roamless and they charge $2.45 US per Gigabyte of data on a pay as you go basis in New Zealand.

      Thanks for your help MSF. Yes, I've set the APN correctly and also done a manual scan and selected each of the individual networks individually - but still "No Service". 

      And yes, I've got enough credit. But to be honest I don't even need the data - I have a New Zealand sim too so can use that. The main problem is not being able to receive SMS messages.

      I should also say that I have used Smarty/roamed successfully in a dozen countries over the last few months, including in the USA just one day before arriving in New Zealand (I stopped over in New York on my way)... which does make me think that there is something New Zealand-specific going on here.
