Calling all Unlimited Plan customers…
We’re keen to hear from you and how we can enhance your experience with SMARTY so we have a few questions for you. You don’t have to answer them all, you don’t have to write pages and pages (unless you want to), we just really want to know how you feel about your plan and how we can make the experience better. Please be honest, feel free to make suggestions, you won’t hurt our feelings (I can cry in private), and we might be able to do something about some of them. (No promises.)
- Why are you on an Unlimited plan? Do you stream a lot of TV? Do you send hi-res images and video around?
- Do you use it overseas? Do you feel 12GB suits that need? Do you use an EU data pass to unlock the rest of your data when in Europe?
- What can do to make things better (other than reducing the price; that’s obvious and we all love a bargain)? Longer data passes? Non-EU passes? Rewards on your anniversary? No idea is off the table. (Might not be achievable, but no harm in asking, eh?)
Of course, if everything is OK and you’re happy, post that too. Contentment is fine.
Thanks

I got unlimited because I would have been paying for home Wi-Fi by myself (I considered asking if someone in the same building wanted to share but never did). I only use it to stream to my Fire TV Stick. I have recently moved and I'm really missing decent speakers to stream my music to, something for the future. I also use the data to stream music to headphones while traveling, Google Maps for directions and other entertainment or info on the go. I was running out or rationing data for this when I first moved to the country a few months ago and I wasn't paying much less than for unlimited. The feeling of unlimited feels so good, no monitoring if data is getting low.
I was disappointed that if I travel to Europe the gb allowance is lower than some other companies.
I was also sad to stop getting international phone minutes (Lebara has these included). I have one friend in New Zealand who has issues with technology, so I can't message or phone her via the Internet.
The reception has been good. It often seems to have slightly better bars or at least the same than my old SIM which is still in the second slot.
I wanted to get a SIM from ID Mobile but they ridiculously do a credit check even for month to month contracts and I haven't lived back in the country for long, so haven't built a good credit score.

First of all you should know that I'm retired so I have a lot of time for holidays and recreation. I use Smarty for data ONLY through a MiFi, whenever I go camping or on holidays from home.
I absolutely love the fact I can put it on hold when I don't need it so full credit to you guys for coming up with that one. Now I'm looking into somewhere that allows me to transfer my data usage when I go abroad as I find 12gb is quite measly.
I will FaceTime my family or stream a lot of tv in the evenings hence the need for unlimited which I doubt I need but I don't want to get caught short.
Thanks

We use it in the caravan Avtec WiFi unit to stream TV and to send and receive pictures, messages from all our smart phones. Been using Smarty for some time now with no issues but are on holiday in mid Wales and have no signal onl 3G which is of no use but is the first time ever with no signal. Love Smarty and all the team 😎 C J Howett

I'm on unlimited and ONLY bought it for tethering my pc. I do some minor connectivity thru mobile hotspot too but that doesn't even make 1% for a couple of devices.
I ask this respectfully as the person who answered my chat query, couldn't understand what I was asking, amde clearly obvious by their replies, how do I get to speak to someone who can speak english well enough to deal with my query ? My recent post and chat history show what I am talking about. - SunnyvineSMARTY Maverick29-06-2025
I've been an unlimited smarty data customer for two years. Generally the service is very good. I travel a lot for work in the UK and sometimes in Europe. My employer provided voice and data ... but I like to use my own data sim in my own time. I have unlimited as I know I'm fully covered for one price. The fair use data roaming allowance in Europe of 12gb is low and the number of days it can be used is important too... sometimes I can be out of the country for several weeks.

I'll be testing SMARTY across Spain and Switzerland next month, and i think i will very likely need to use an EU data pass as i have in the past with other networks. But in the UK I've noticed the data connection has very slightly improved in the last few weeks. I don't have unlimited data on SMARTY as I have multi gig fibre at home, and my data use away from home is no more than 200gb a month. You really need to adopt support of RCS for Google phones though and a few other network oddities on SMARTY as compared to a direct connection with three or Vodafone.

New2Smarty Don't forget that EU Roaming does not apply to Switzerland - see Price Guide.

MSF Thanks very much for pointing this out. You may have saved me from a painful experience

I use SMARTY UNLIMITED to tether my laptop and as a hotspot for my tablet because it is a lot cheaper than buying a broadband package. I download a lot of videos from YouTube and the speed is very good to excellent. I have had no problems with the service since joining in July 2021. However, I have probably jinxed it now 🤣.

I’ve moved from SMARTY to iD Mobile because they’re cheaper. Here are my reasons for having an unlimited plan:
1. It brings me peace of mind. I wouldn’t consider myself a heavy user, but I do stream live TV, on-demand content including YouTube, and music. I also browse the web, send and receive emails, use various social media platforms, and communicate using VoIP and a variety of messaging platforms. I also use my mobile device as a hotspot occasionally, usually when travelling so I can use my laptop for all of the above reasons.2. I do use it abroad, but the 12GB fair usage SMARTY offer isn’t enough. My current provider has a 30GB fair use policy. I use, on average, 22GB of data when travelling abroad.
3. Increase the 12GB roaming limit, offer rest of world roaming passes, direct debit, eSIM and smart watch support would be nice too.

Im on unlimited also and while living in the middle of nowhere I'm quite happy with the service. The best signal I can get is ~96dBm usually stays at 100dBm, but it's just enough to tether video streaming services at 720-1080p. Online gaming is not really possible due to unstable ping, but it is what it is. Just International calling rates to nearby EU I find a bit pricy. 19p/min when your parent network on pay&go asks only 3p/min is a bit strange.

Thanks for the input, Ged_1388391, and I'm happy you're happy, considering the limitations of mobile data vs "conventional" data delivery.

I’m on the Unlimited plan mainly because I stream a fair bit of YouTube and high-quality music, and it's really handy for tethering when I’m travelling around the UK — saves me from patchy Wi-Fi.
Roaming is where it feels a bit tight though. The 12GB cap doesn’t stretch far at all, and I’ve actually looked at iD Mobile as an alternative because of that. Would be great to see a higher EU roaming allowance. Also, if roaming could be extended to places like Turkey, that would be a huge plus.
It’d also be super helpful to have WiFi Calling work while in Europe — sometimes mobile signal is patchy indoors, and that feature would be a lifesaver.
Would also love to see some kind of reward on birthdays — doesn’t have to be big. A cheap coffee and a bit of cake would be a nice touch!
And I know it’s been brought up before, but adding eSIM support would be great — hope that’s still on the radar.

Kikujiro Thanks for that and none of you comments are outside of our expected responses. Some of those are being worked on (no promises and no further info). I certainly think some kind of reward could be useful.
(Of course the EU roaming is only for EU countries, hence why Turkey isn't covered.)
