5G whilst roaming in Spain
I can’t find any specific info on this in Q&A, so looking to anyone who has experience of this… I will be going on holiday to the Canary Islands (Spain) and this will be the first time I will have used my SMARTY SIM outside the UK. Spain is one of the included countries for free EU roaming, and the resort I am staying in has excellent coverage from all the 4 Spanish mobile networks, 2 of them offering 5G speeds. Will I still get 5G whilst there or will this be limited to 4G only whilst roaming?Solved12KViews0likes12CommentsSetting up roaming - can't change APN
Hi, I have a fair phone 4, I have tried to follow the instructions to set it up for use abroad but my APN is called 'smarty' not '3' as in the android set up guide, and I cannot edit anything in the APN. I have tried creating a new one called 3 with he correct settings as per the help guide but the phone will not allow me to select this APN - it just defaults to the one called 'smarty' Can anyone advise or help? Thanks8.3KViews2likes11CommentsUK SIM not working in Australia
Since arriving in Australia, I've been unable to use my Smarty UK SIM (just required for 2-step banking authentication etc as I have a local SIM for calls, texts and data). The SIM is recognised by my phone and multiple local phone signals are identified but for some reason I can't connect to any of them. The APN is now set to mob.asm.net but the change was made post-arrival in Australia - could this be the source of the problem? I've tried toggling all of the various settings on and off but without success. My local Aussie SIM works fine in my Poco F3 but it stops working when my Smarty UK SIM is added to slot 2 - my Smarty SIM is therefore currently residing in my old Motorola g(8). I was last in Australia in April 2024 and my Smarty SIM was connecting without any issues at that time. In the meantime, the 3G network has been turned off in Australia. I mention this in case it is significant but as the settings on my 2x phones allow me to select 5G (Poco F3) and 4G/LTE (Motorola g(8)), I assume this is not the root cause of the problem. I don't know if it's relevant but I should also note that I was unable to connect to either WiFi or mobile data while on the train to the UK airport. Ideally, a solution to this problem can be found but, if not, what are my options? 1. Smarty could send a replacement SIM to my UK address for a relative to post to Australia (it probably wouldn't arrive until after Christmas) 2. Is it possible sms messages to be forwarded to another number (similar to call forwarding for voice calls)? 3. I could do nothing (not a great option as I'm staying in Australia until after Easter 2025) 4. Are there any other options? All suggestions welcome. I'm a new customer, I transferred from EE and activated my SIM 2 days ago. I'm currently in the transfer period of bringing over my new number due to complete tomorrow 15/04/24. It was working fine last night but as of today my phone is unusable - I can't download any data or use any apps. My iPhone does not connect to Wifi as of this morning. I could understand an issue with data connection during the transfer, it's mentioned that this can take place, but it's completely illogical that the Wifi isn't connecting. It appears to be connected, I have reset it, I have checked for network errors on Zen (it's working on my laptop). I have reset my network settings, and updated the APN. Smarty customer services were not helpful - they kept answering in regards to service outages for mobile data due to engineering works and 'too many people trying to connect to the mast at once'. That's not the issue for me at home, obviously, and I can think of no other reason that my iPhone is behaving so strangely apart from the transfer. Has anyone else had this issue during transfer, how long did it last, how did they resolve? I don't know if it will work itself out in a day or two or it's a permanent issue that I need to fix urgently. The response from customer services has made me worried I've made a terrible mistake in joining Smarty, particularly as I've seen lots of comments/complaints today on the forum about data connection and wifi connection being bad - I'm used to getting a decent 5G service and being able to stream music and download video on mobile with no issues. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it - I need my phone to work because of all the app based authentication on my phone.Solved7.3KViews0likes12CommentsWill non-EU roaming ever have a cheaper option?
After bouncing around a few operators, now on Smarty and extremely happy so far. Runs like a rocket in UK, good reception (so far), price is great, setup/number-porting smooth, 12Gig roaming in EU is more than I'll ever need - only thing spoiling my complete happiness, is the cost of non-EU roaming. I think anywhere I'm likely to travel is on Three's list of "Go Roam" non-EU countries (e.g. US) - but only option on Smarty is to pay 10p a Meg. Now that's not absolutely horrific, but you're not going to be using your phone with joyous abandon. Any chance of there ever being another option - Daily charge? More premium monthly option? I understand you might not want to cannibalize from Three with the only differentiator I can see, but I'm not paying per Meg. I'll just buy a local PAYG or an e-Sim from travelsim - which is a bit of hassle. You're so close to making Smarty perfect.. So so close..7.2KViews2likes9CommentsSwitzerland charges
I travel to France very close to the Swiss border every few months. I’m confused by the text message I get from Smarty when I unknowingly connect to a Swiss provider - it contradicts itself. Is it free to receive calls and texts or not? Please can anyone help? I avoid going online when I’m out of a Wi-Fi zone, but my Add on bundle disappears all the same. Thanks. “Welcome to Switzerland. It's max of 50p/min to call & 2p/MB data. To receive a call and send SMS is in bundle. You need an Out of plan add-on to make & receive calls/texts and get online. We’re keen to hear from you and how we can enhance your experience with SMARTY so we have a few questions for you. You don’t have to answer them all, you don’t have to write pages and pages (unless you want to), we just really want to know how you feel about your plan and how we can make the experience better. Please be honest, feel free to make suggestions, you won’t hurt our feelings (I can cry in private), and we might be able to do something about some of them. (No promises.) Why are you on an Unlimited plan? Do you stream a lot of TV? Do you send hi-res images and video around? Do you use it overseas? Do you feel 12GB suits that need? Do you use an EU data pass to unlock the rest of your data when in Europe? What can do to make things better (other than reducing the price; that’s obvious and we all love a bargain)? Longer data passes? Non-EU passes? Rewards on your anniversary? No idea is off the table. (Might not be achievable, but no harm in asking, eh?) Of course, if everything is OK and you’re happy, post that too. Contentment is fine. Thanks6.7KViews1like26Comments
