5g

I live in Bath Spa, and have been on Smarty since 9/2025. For a good signal and enjoyable network experience, it is worth here especially to know a few things. As previously I was with O2 for a few years back. Only being in Bath longer, I've started having signal dropout and throughput problems. So I went to a local mate's mobile shop that I've known over 10 years to ask for some advice. His first point was "Are you on O2?", and soon after then I learned my answer. Myself too I noticed that with 5g connected coverage, here in Bath is the best way to signal/usage stability. He then recommended EE, however to get 5g from them, you need to be on contract. I didn't want that, so I tried Smarty and loved it ever since. MORE TO THE POINT OF COVERAGE AND IMPROVEMENT To sum things up. To stop having problems with finding better coverage, signal, or throughput, you need to focus on how and where you get signal. To help you do this to the above, I found a open source app called Open Signal (no charges, no ads, signups, no bs). There you'll find everything to help you approach and furthermore calibrate things better. It has tests for video quality limits, latency, and signal direction. There's a coverage map, a currently connected cell tower direction compass (just walk around with on screen arrow), and a table showing available 2g/3g/4g/5g available percentages at spot, and a map of available local cell towers(with a signal connected line from current tower to you). So objects and placement around(buildings, structures, interference), can be addressed to optimise your experience. Open Signal is a great tool for customising your signal experience anywhere. You can get it on the app store. Its completely ad and payment free.25Views1like0CommentsSIM disconnected
This has happened across two phones And across e sim and physical Sims. I can be in an area I know has signal Not overly crowded or built up etc Then suddenly a ! Will appear next to my signal bar While it still claims to have 4 or 5 g signal But I don't have any signal I have to go into my phones settings and switch the SIM on and off again to get it to work. Never run out of data etc anyone else have this issue or just me ? Getting frustrating having to do this daily now57Views0likes2CommentsNo signal - terrible experience
The past 3/4 months I’ve had the worst experience with Smarty, looking at posts from 2022 I can tell it’s an ongoing issue. I no signal in or around my home in North London. I’m constantly turning my data on and off for two minutes of consistency. I contacted Smarty and they said it’s a mast issue with no timeframe on when it would improve. I think it’s totally unacceptable to pay for such an unreliable service. DAILY I HAVE NO STABLE DATA AT ALL whilst working from home. They offered me £4.60 compensation to my next bill but I’ve requested my PUK and I’m moving networks. The customer service are like robots, I guess they have a script and are just doing a job but they can’t do anything. I feel bad because I made my family move over when I first joined because I thought it was reliable and affordable but I’d rather pay more for another network with reliable service in my area. If they can’t promise stable network in an area LET THE CUSTOMER KNOW AT THE POINT OF PURCHASE. I feel cheated. DON’T WAIT AROUND FOR SMARTY TO IMPROVE. CHANGE NETWORKS IMMEDIATELY. Don’t be like me and waste £20 each month for a few hours of data a day when I’m out and about only to come home and have nothing.115Views1like3CommentsURGENT: SMARTY is failing now, time to move to ID
Compare Smarty to ID on here: https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/ Smarty is honestly terrible. ID offers so much more on the same network for the same price. They offer more data per £, data rollover, more EU countries access, 30GB EU Roaming (18 more than Smarty), e-sim for Watches, 3 months of Apple TV + Music. It is a no-brainer to switch now, Smarty has lost it's game sadly.904Views0likes2CommentsNo signal emergency calls only
This morning (23rd July 2025) my phone was displaying full 5G signal, however was unable to access the Internet. I have an active smarty plan. For my postcode Three's website says no issues. When on wifi I have checked down detector and news and there don't seem to be any reported issues. Doing flight mode off and on doesnt work. Rebooting phone doesnt work. In mobile network settings performing a manual roam by selecting any other network and trying to reselect smarty doesnt work, in fact it refuses to connect. In mobile settings selecting 4G preferred or turning volte off/on doesnt work. This issue has been going off and on since 5:40am until 8am today. My phone has finally connected back to 5G and Internet is working again. Could this be Vodafone and Three messing about with the masts in the West Midlands overnight? Anyone else in the West Midlands and experienced no Internet overnight and seeing emergency calls only displayed on screen? I would add a screenshot here but there doesnt seem to be the option to.344Views1like0CommentsSlow data uploading
Have just joined Smarty, and am astounded that I get 5G data in my house. I ran a speed test which showed 200+ mb/s (that's better than my broadband wifi connection), but only 1mb/s upload. Is there a reason for this stark contrast? Does Smarty operate uploading restrictions for some reason?1.9KViews0likes5Comments
