To make or receive calls reliably we often have to turn off wifi on the phone, why?

I'm with Smarty both for phone and internet at home. To make or receive calls reliably I often have to take my phone off wifi, why?

I looked this up using Ai and here's the answer and frankly this is an absolute bore.

The issue is likely due to *Smarty's network configuration* (which operates on the *Three* network) not providing the *"WiFi Preferred"* toggle that allows phones to lock onto WiFi Calling even when mobile signal is present.

* *Signal Interference:* Without this setting, your phone aggressively switches between WiFi and mobile networks. If your mobile signal is borderline, the phone may constantly drop the WiFi connection to attempt a cellular connection, causing calls to cut out or fail.

* *Incompatibility:* Unlike some other providers, Smarty does not allow users to modify the WiFi Calling preference on the device, forcing a default behavior where the phone prioritizes cellular signal over WiFi when both are available.

To fix this, you can manually force WiFi Calling by enabling *Airplane Mode* and then turning *WiFi back on*. This disables the cellular radio, ensuring all calls and texts are routed exclusively through your home internet connection until you leave the area.

To be be honest I don't think I've ever tried this router on it's own. I've had various extenders etc in place for a long time before I had this router. Hmmm... It's easy enough to try it, I only have to switch off the Decos! But I'll have to do it when there's no one else here otherwise there'll be trouble!

Yes phone coverage is good although for a while the nearest 5G mast kept dropping out, technical problems I believe.

Thanks for your responses by the way.

RonaldE_1870142 This is slightly unusual in that the normal problem people report is not being able to use wifi calling.

As I understand it(and perhaps I'm wrong here), wifi calling only cuts in where there is either no signal for calls ora very low level.

What you describe seems to be the opposite and that's why it seems unusual. Do you normally have a strong signal at home? Is the phone perhaps rapidly toggling between wifi calling and normal signal, thereby losing the call?

I normally have a good signal at home, but do sometimes notice the phone screen showing wifi calling - all a mystery.

Hi, yes we generally have a good to strong signal (4 to 5 bars 5G) at home (generally get up to 300Mbps d/l near the router/main Deco) I have a Deco M5 system which works well. I've gone through factory reset and setup a couple of times with everything, router and Deco, and it's made no difference to the phone problem. Sometimes it works fine, I make a call ok and maybe someone calls me back. Worst of all though calls or messages from the doctor don't get through unless I remember to switch off wifi. It's been this way for a long time, but now I think about it i'm wondering if it started since I installed the Deco system, although there's no reason why that should be. Unfortunately I don't think the router would reach the whole house on it's own.

RonaldE_1870142  Perhaps you have discovered the problem then!!?? Does the wifi router not cover a sufficient aerator your devices?

I wonder if this may be an issue with having to rely on mobile signal as it fluctuates?

On the plus side, you would at least have regular phone coverage it seems.
