Not able to receive one time codes from HMRC on 60551

Hi

Switched to SMARTY yesterday - bit of a delay getting it all working via the PAC code but seems to be OK now with calls and SMS inbound and outbound working. Including most places that send one time codes via SMS. However, gov/uk / government gateway / HMRC does not seems to be working - not able to receive the SMS codes from 60551 so can't access the account.

Have web chatted with customer support who say that there is a known issue with certain websites etc not being able to send SMS to come customers and it is being looked into, which is no problem.

Was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same issue? My first thought was that potentially the messages are being filtered out by SMARTY as triggering a spam filter of some sort.

Thank you

Peregrin0925 I have just checked this and it is certainly working for me.

I hope I'm not being patronising but....... have you noticed that recently there's another (third) option on HMRC log in page now and it comes top of their list  - to receive the code via their new shiny app? If you have inadvertently chosen that, it could explain no code from the normal text source.

OK I tried the app - to set it up it needed to send an SMS and it seems to have started working again. I then retried via web browser and I seem to be able to get the SMS messages. Not sure whether it was a transient network thing or a gov.uk thing. Either way I have now got an MFA code in my auth app. Always a good idea to use those over SMS anyway I think!

      Hi MSF

No, I didn't know about their new app - though surely I will still need access initially to SMS to get that set up?

I think it is meant to be going via SMS anyway as it does say the last four digits of my phone number on the page.

I know there is a way of recovering the account, but I was hoping that I could get this resolved via SMS - and then I will look to changing the account to multi factor authenticate via an app e.g. google authenticator.

Peregrin0925 Ah, sorry, perhaps I did not make myself clear.

On the gov.uk web page, after signing in there are now the 2 main options for verification (access code), whereas there used to be one main one.

The first option is to receive a code within the mobile app - not via SMS - the second is to receive an SMS on your mobile number.

I had just wondered whether you chose the app in error as you may not have spotted it - I had to look twice when I first saw it!
