London Underground WiFi auto-connect issues

I cannot seem to auto-connect to London Underground WiFi anymore, and now I have to manually click 'Three_WiFi' to connect. I used to be able to walk into a station, and as long as I had WiFi enabled, it would automatically connect. It would also auto-connect at every station that the train stopped at, which is useful in sections where the train is underground.
I have read these two community posts: Auto Wi-Fi log in London Underground? | SMARTY Community and London underground wifi | SMARTY Community, but none of the advice has helped.

  • I have checked that the Auto connect option is enabled for the access point, and tried disabling and re-enabling it.
  • It does not work at any station I've been on, walking around the stations, and it does not matter whether the station is crowded during peak hours or during the afternoon with only a couple of people.
  • I dropped my EAP method down from AKA' (which I could auto-connect with before) to AKA, and even SIM, which did not work either so I set it back up to AKA'.
  • I tried forgetting Three_WiFi and then connecting again, and I also tried again but initially connecting with the EAP AKA and EAP SIM methods.
  • I also tried resetting mobile network settings, which also did not work
  • I also turned off Random MAC address and enabled Send device name to the network, which did not fix it

I seem to have lost this capability after updating to Android 17 on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, so maybe that update broke it? This seems to be consistent with the findings from eekamouse (Auto Wi-Fi log in London Underground? | SMARTY Community and London underground wifi | SMARTY Community), where the phone's software might be problematic. However, my phone can auto-connect to another EAP network that uses PEAP, so perhaps they only broke the Mobile Network authentication methods?

Can anyone else confirm whether they can auto-connect to the Underground WiFi just fine?
