Is this a scam?

Hi I’ve just received the following text that I’m pretty sure it’s a scam as I’ve not signed up for anything other than my mobile package over a year ago or there abouts:

“You signed up for SMS from shortcode 60551. You've insufficient funds to receive it so need to buy an add-on. Visit https://info.smarty.uk/c9i8x1x9 for details.”

    Thanks everyone, I realise what it is now you’ve both mentioned HMRC , I was meant to send a text to my friend but seems i inadvertently tried sending it to them on the back of a log in code I recieved earlier and didn’t realise I done it 🤦‍♀️

      Gillian_3145896 Not to worry, it happens!

      The time to worry is when the text does arrive and says that you need to contact them for your huge tax refund! Warning bells, red lights, sirens !!!!!

    Gillian_3145896 I would be wary with this one. Normally, text messages from HMRC are received free of charge.

    If the scammers have managed to spoof text, it will appear to come from HMRC's number.

    They do text if you have asked for a code to enter your account.

    As per advice from GordonK_4213188 , give HMRC a call if in doubt - but be prepared to hang on for minutes, hours, days........

    Looking at that url in the message it takes you  To This Page

    When I used the "Short Code Checker" link and ran the short code in the message I got this;

    States It's From HMRC

    If you are worried about it it you might want to contact HMRC otherwise just leave it unless it Keeps happening. If you are going to contact HMRC I would check the  contact No on their web site just as a security belt and braces approach. The last time I rang HMRC, granted a while back, it was a free No.
