Help please I'm travelling to EU

Hi. Sorry if this is the wrong place I would like some help please. I am travelling through France and Belgium on the Eurostar to spend a few days in the Netherlands from Saturday 27th. My last phone was not a smart phone and was pay as you go with GiffGaff and just updated my connection as I travelled in EU. I've looked into what I have to do to get a roaming connection with Smarty and it looks very complicated. Apparently I have to change/add a VPN to my phone. I've looked at the info but can't seem to add a VPN on my phone a Motorola 35g as nothing looks the same as the details on the help page. I tried to add a VPN but I can enter the '3' but then in the next box down it asks for server address not APN. Sorry I am useless at tech so this is probably an instance when I need to go to a shop. Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Best wishes, Andy

Regarding my above post: I've just realised that I was trying to change the VPN instead of APN. When I follow the Android instructions and go to SIMs & mobile network all I see is a button to turn Smarty off and a + sign to Add eSim and then a button to turn mobile data off. I do not see a 'Access Point Names' sign or panel or button to add one. Perhaps I do this when I am actually travelling but then I would not be able to see the instructions. I think I will probably be spending my time using wifi where I can as I am struggling to understand how to change the settings on my phone

A further not to my earlier message above:I found out how to add an APN by clicking the network button it didn't turn smarty off as I first thought but opened up a new panel. The only thing on the instructions that I couldn't do was to leave the APN Type blank as my phone would not let me do this so I ticked the mms type from the drop down. I'm not sure if I should have chosen default instead.
