Going on a cruise
Hi,
I’m going on a cruise soon, and having a sim only deal, I was wondering if I should do anything extra before I go. (E-sim, add-ons etc). Or, if I stay connected to the ships wi-fi, will I still be able to use my phone. We’re going to the USA and Caribbean, so I want to stay in touch with UK. Thanks. Ant🐜

Anthony_3355441 All the details on roaming is in this article: Roaming and international | SMARTY Help Centre. Here is the cost for roaming on USA, which unfortunately does not use the EU roaming allowances of free calls & texts and 12GB FUP: Using SMARTY in United States of America.
Here's the article for Maritime network: https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/16119183-using-your-sim-at-sea-maritime-usage-explained. This one includes a link showing you how much it would cost to use your SMARTY services (which looks very expensive and as the article says, you should probably stick to their onboard WiFi).
I believe even if you use WiFi calling, it will still be charged the same rate as if you were using their cellular maritime signal, so use WhatsApp or similar apps for calls while on WiFi. The same applies for USA.
I have no experience buying eSIMs for travel, but I believe they should be cheaper than your roaming costs so do look into travel eSIM providers if you want to keep connected outdoors in USA.
