Personal hotspot greyed out

Question

My Smarty sim is in an iPad and I only really use it when away from home. Today, I thought I’d set up a personal hotspot to help a family member whose iPad has no mobile facility and the WiFi here is unreliable.
the personal hotspot option is ‘greyed’ out so I cannot select it to allow sharing.
I have checked my account on the smarty app and it says I should be able to use tethering and personal hotspot but it’s not available. Anybody got any ideas?

JSB​ Googling the issue tells me that the APN settings might be incorrectly set. The details on setting up the APN are here: Using the internet after you've joined SMARTY | SMARTY Help Centre.

Thanks, I had checked the APN settings and they were already set up. I am using the internet successfully, but I cannot switch the hotspot on.
I have also removed and reseated the SIM card and restarted the device. Elsewhere I also got advice to switch on airplane mode for a while and then switch off to force a reconnection. So far no luck.

I tried all the FAQ areas in the support area and there is nothing about this problem although I had read elsewhere that others had had this issue. &nbsp;When I eventually got a chat dialogue going I had a very helpful person make several suggestions but unfortunately none of them worked. He mentioned that it was a known problem a couple of years ago and he was going to log a call for me with the back room engineers.But this was when we hit a brick wall. I got this sim a few years ago for an elderly relative. &nbsp;I have paid the monthly charge all that time but I had put the account in his name because it was in his phone. The cost was too much long term for his use so I switched my giff-gaff sim with him because credit bought did not expire every month. Smarty do not allow the change of name of an account so cannot discuss the account with me, the payer. They wanted my 88 year old relative to phone them. &nbsp;I know there are plenty of older people around who have technical awareness, but he is not one of them and probably doesn’t even know this sim exists.&nbsp;so when I get home, I’ll be terminating this account and getting another service for my iPad.&nbsp;
