Is/has anyone had any issues with Smarty claiming they’ve used data when you know you haven’t? I’m a low data user, on the 4Gb plan. Got a message yesterday to say I’d run out of data which was strange, I never run out and I was working from home, hardly using my phone, which was connected to home WiFi and had been all day, hadn’t left the house. Checked Smarty account and it said I’d used 0.7Gb. I’d been on WiFi the whole time. Chatting with Smarty support, long and the short of it is they claim that when phones are connected to WiFi they still use cellular data unless you manually switch off mobile data to force them to use WiFi. I don’t believe this. Said even if that’s the case the how come my normal usage is 20-30Mb when connected to WiFi and using my phone as normal, now suddenly I’ve used 700Mb. I'm SOOO confused... so my data doesn't work when WiFi is not avaliable. I have the correct settings activated. The sim is new and Smarty mobile are in the process of transferring my old Vodafone number to this provider. I'm not sure if this makes a difference. I've bought a new SMARTY Data-Only SIM (2gb) just to try it out for use with a TP-Link Mobile Wi-Fi 'pebble' dongle. It works! But 2gb won't last me long for what I need. So, now I know it works, I need to do two things. First, I need to ensure it'll work abroad (Tenerife, so EU). Second, I need to add more data. Oh, and I don't need to use it every month. When this month is over, I want to cancel, and then re-use (again abroad) in July. Can I do this, or will I need a new SIM? Please advise how to do all three. Hello, please help!!! I don't make calls very often so thought it was a service issue but I have good signal and 4G, and texts come through fine. Sometimes I can receive calls but I have had SMARTY since September 2025 and haven't been able to make any. I don't use whatsapp or instagram or anything on this phone, only texts and calls (well receive them as I can't make them). I also use the safari app but it's been very temperamental and I thought perhaps because I have an old phone (iPhone 5S) but surely calls would work?! And I have 4G?! When I try to call mobile or landline numbers, and even voicemail, it comes up that it is calling but then is silent with no beeps or anything and doesn't go through. I have voicemails that I can't listen to and need to ring the doctors but I can't!!! I'm paying for data and calls and texts which I haven't been able to use... please can you help fix this issue as I'm paying for a service that I am not receiving.68Views0likes3Comments
