Setting up your iOS device to work abroad
Your SMARTY SIM will not work abroad unless you make a one-off change to your phone settings. We’ve created a step-by-step guide to easily set up your phone to work for roaming. 🌍✈ Follow these steps to get your phone ready: Go to ‘Settings’ Open ‘Mobile Data’ Open ‘Mobile Data Network’ Change the Mobile Data and MMS APN to: mob.asm.net That’s the only thing you have to change. If there’s any information in other fields, you can leave it as it is. It should look like this:8.8KViews21likes0CommentsSetting up your Android device to work abroad

Hi Everyone trying to roam with an Apple iPhone I am in Italy on my first overseas trip with Smarty and what a disaster ! I carried out all the instructions from Smarty on how to roam, changed settings, reset my phone, removed the SIM and still could only get intermittent 3G at best in both Bologna and Florence, both big cities with great coverage on all the networks. After a lot of exchanges of emails when I had WiFi my complaint was escalated, and I was then told that this is a KNOWN ISSUE for Apple users on the Smarty network. When roaming you are not able to connect to 4G so at best you will only ever get 3G, and potentially 5G if you can connect to another network manually but this as I have found is intermittent at best. According to SMARTY there will be no fix until end September. Other people in my party are with other providers and had full connectivity (with iPhones) on various networks from stepping off the plane. If you need data when roaming think about another network until this is fixed. From what I can see it is a Smarty only issue which they are conveniently not telling customers about until the complaint is escalated. Smarty seems to be trying to push the blame to Apple saying they are waiting for them to sort out a fix with an over the air update at the end of this month, but Apple phones are hardly new, so come on Smarty sort this out with your partner networks and don’t ruin your reputation.218Views2likes1CommentSetting up roaming - can't change APN
Hi, I have a fair phone 4, I have tried to follow the instructions to set it up for use abroad but my APN is called 'smarty' not '3' as in the android set up guide, and I cannot edit anything in the APN. I have tried creating a new one called 3 with he correct settings as per the help guide but the phone will not allow me to select this APN - it just defaults to the one called 'smarty' Can anyone advise or help? Thanks8.3KViews2likes11CommentsWill non-EU roaming ever have a cheaper option?
After bouncing around a few operators, now on Smarty and extremely happy so far. Runs like a rocket in UK, good reception (so far), price is great, setup/number-porting smooth, 12Gig roaming in EU is more than I'll ever need - only thing spoiling my complete happiness, is the cost of non-EU roaming. I think anywhere I'm likely to travel is on Three's list of "Go Roam" non-EU countries (e.g. US) - but only option on Smarty is to pay 10p a Meg. Now that's not absolutely horrific, but you're not going to be using your phone with joyous abandon. Any chance of there ever being another option - Daily charge? More premium monthly option? I understand you might not want to cannibalize from Three with the only differentiator I can see, but I'm not paying per Meg. I'll just buy a local PAYG or an e-Sim from travelsim - which is a bit of hassle. You're so close to making Smarty perfect.. So so close..7.2KViews2likes9CommentsBuying data add on before data plan runs out without losing service (while roaming)
With a new Smarty account, I purchased a 2 GB data only SIM for £5. Worked fine in the UK then I travelled to France, where it continued to work great. When the 2 GB was down just below 1 GB, I purchased a 1GB add-on for £1. I did this while in France. There was a bit of delay before the add-on showed up (maybe an hour) but the service continued fine. The next day my original 2GB data ran out and showed zero in the dashboard. The add-on showed 1 GB as expected. However, the service stopped. The only site I could get to was smarty.co.uk. A few more hours went by and the service started working again on its own. I tried explaining this to the Smarty help chat (with a person). They said it should seamlessly change from the data plan to the add-on without any interruption. As I will need to do this again next time I travel, I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem or has any thoughts on this? Any help appreciated. Thanks John2.3KViews2likes2Comments
