can I turn off voicemail and have a message to the caller eg. "thank you for your call, please text"

I was trying to ask this in chat but I think the operator's English wasn't up to it and then they dissapeared on me.  Waited 20 mins for the last message to be responded to and I've given up - might ...

JoPedder  For an iPhone, you can respond with text: Settings > Phone >Calls > Respond with text

Not sure if this may do the job.

Also, have you listened to the voicemail menu? Pressing 2 may help you here.
