Transfer ownership
TracyCo_1028201 If he is over 16, then he can hold his own account. He can get a Smarty sim, activate it, then ask O2 for a PAC code to transfer his number across to Smarty. HOWEVER, check when his contract ends otherwise he will still be liable for the charges up to its end.
If he is under 16, you would need to start a 'nickname' sim within your own account. You could still port the number across from O2, but control of the account would rest with you.

Hi, thanks. He is over 18 and it's a monthly contract with O2 but in my name. I'll obviously ok the port if I need to as if it were me moving to smarty if that makes sense.
It just seemed too easy doing it this way compared to what O2 were wanting to do...

TracyCo_1028201 If it's his account, then I don't see any problem in him opening his Smarty account and you should be able to request the PAC code from O2 as you are their account holder.
I have no experience of this type of move, but I suppose that smarty could be confused by a number coming from 'your' account and going to someone else. If I were you, I would have a quick web chat with Smarty Support to check that there will be no problem moving a number from one person to another (nominally)
