RCS chat wrong number after port to Smarty
Hi,
My number has successfully been ported over to Smarty but my number in RCS messages is showing the original number before the port.
I have tried turning off and back on RCS chat, restarting the phone, switching the phone off, removing the sim etc but to no avail.
Phone is Oppo Android if that helps.
Thanks for any suggestion for a fix.

hi, ive just come over onto Smarty and i was having the same issue, my number was the new number showing in RCS.
what you need to do is go into google and remove the new number (temp number assigned by Smarty)from you list, then as soon as you do that you number will get connected.

I have recently signed my elderly mum up to SMARTY as the cost of the plan was much less than she was being forced to spend with O2 (with yet another rise coming in March).
Anyway, I have discovered having ported her O2 number over in the past week that RCS is incorrectly using the number originally issued to the SIM before the port took place. Unfortunately much like the Oppo user, I did what I thought was the sensible thing and tested the SIM with its original number before requesting the port (I wanted to make sure the SMARTY SIM worked properly before committing to the port).
As far as calls and SMS text messages are concerned, everything works with the ported number. However, she used RCS messages with my brother as he lives in Australia. Following the port he can still send a message to her ported number and she receives it, but when she replies it is appearing at his end from the original SMARTY number.
I've been through the steps mentioned here and undertook a very thorough diagnostic conversation with ChatGPT (which essentially explained the same solutions, but in greater detail and also included suggestions such as clearing the cache/storage for the Carrier Services app which could force a fresh registration of the RCS service with Google). However, after about 2 hours going around in circles the each time the RCS chat option is turned back on the RCS service continues to register itself with the wrong number. The suggestion given was to contact SMARTY, giving the ported number and the SIM's ICCID number so that they could re-provision so that the correct number/ICCID combination would be presented to Googles RCS (Jibe) servers.
When I did this through the web chat, I was basically told that Three (and by definition, SMARTY) does not officially support the use of RCS and if there are back end issues using it they can't do anything about it.
I have turned off RCS chat on her phone and suggested she use something else (such as Google Chat) for the messages to her other son. This isn't easy as, at 81, these things don't sink in all that well and I'm fully expecting she will continue to use the Messages app to contact him (and will be charged for doing so), but maybe with RCS turned for a longer period (such as the 30 days suggested) it might, just might, re-register again with the ported number. - Robalot7SMARTY Pioneer29-08-2024
This is what worked for me (Google Pixel 6)...
I went into the phone settings, went to Apps, then selected Messages.
I then cleared the storage/cache, restarted the phone, went back into the message settings, went into Advanced and entered the correct phone number. Back to RCS Messages (had to wait for this to become available again, it wasn't straight from the off), turned that back on and entered the correct number to verify it, and it worked!
If you've got important messages, I would recommend backing them up first.

Robalot7 What you describe covers the general situation - slightly different for iPhone though.
The problem seems to arise because the device 'remembers' the original number allocated to the sim and is loathe to change once you port in your old number unless 'adjusted'. Some people report that a network reset does it too.

It will be different to iPhone as they don't use RCS yet, that's coming in later this year reportedly. That was just my solution to fixing the RCS problem, I don't have a clue how iMessage works. 🤣

Reset your network settings

Okay MartinK_2563556, sometimes the following steps can help with this:
- Turn OFF RCS chats (“Chat features”) in the Google Messages app.
- Turn OFF the handset and carefully remove the SIM card.
- Check the SIM card is clean and undamaged, wait 15-minutes before re-inserting the SIM card.
- Turn ON the handset.
- Turn ON RCS chats.
🤞

Thanks for the suggestion.
It didn't work I'm afraid. After following the instructions and turning RCS chats on, it tried to verify my number but failed and reverted back to the old number.

I'm guessing perhaps you used the SMARTY SIM in your Oppo handset before switching your number to SMARTY, MartinK_2563556?
If so, Google's RCS servers registered the Oppo as using the number SMARTY allocated for your connection to their network.
Have you tried using the online Google Messages deactivation web portal?
If you've done this, then maybe just turn OFF RCS in Google Messages app for several weeks. The Google RCS servers usually sort themselves out, eventually.
