Ongoing poor connection issue

I'm fairly new (less than a year) Smarty user and have been very happy with the service. However, this is now the fourth day with a problem with internet. The connection is unstable, intermittent, it's lost at times while at other times it works. 

The network status checker keeps returning the same "We're fixing an issue in the area at the moment etc..." message. Is there any way I can find out more about the problem and when it is resolved?
