Advice for travelling to South Africa.
I have a basic package here in UK and when I will be in South Africa for 10 days I will need to call -taxi's mainly (Uber) - and call/text home 3 or 4 times.
What upgrade plan would be best?
Iwan

IwanJen_3326502 Roaming in S. Africa will cost you 25p per megabyte data (that is £256 per gigabyte!!!! - ouch!!!) Please see Price Guide:
https://cdn.smarty.co.uk/files/SMARTY-Price-Guide.pdf
In addition, calls will be £1 per minute out and 30p per minute to receive while texts are 40p each to send (free to receive)
Assuming that you have a reasonably modern phone, you would be better off using one of the travel Esims as they are vastly cheaper and work from local networks (e.g. Airalo, daily, Roamless)
You can download the Uber app and will use some data to order a cab. If your people at home have something like WhatsApp, you can send messages on data that way.
Of course, if in a hotel you can use the wifi.
If you do decide to simply buy add-ons and use that credit to pay for usage, remember that you are restricted to £45 in any month while abroad.

Hello IwanJen_3326502,
I hope the planning for your trip is going well. You will need to purchase an out-of-plan add-on for your services to work in South Africa. Please see our roaming guide for a breakdown of the charges:

Thanks,
Michael
