2g handset for parent
I need to get a big basic mobile handset for my mum. On Amazon it says it is not compatible with Smarty SIM -
is this true?

Make sure you get a 4G version of the Doro 7030, because SMARTY's 3G network is being turned off across the UK, over the next 18 months.
My mother-in-law has a Doro 7030, which works for her.

Chalkychap That seems to be what they are currently offering on their website.

Whatever phone you buy for your Mum SophieB_1893686, make sure it supports 4G calling (VoLTE), otherwise your Mum may not be able to use the phone after 3G network is turned off.

I see that Doro (who specialise in simple big handsets) offer the 7030. That should be compatible as far as I can see: https://www.doro.com/en-gb/shop/mobile-devices/easy-phones/doro-7030-0a8a7e24/

Yes, it's true - SMARTY don't have a 2G mobile network - currently they offer 3G, 4G and 5G services, depending on your location.
In addition, the UK's mobile network operators will be turning OFF their 2G and 3G mobile networks.
Three UK (SMARTY Mobile's owner) have started turning OFF their 3G network, and plan to complete this activity by end of 2024.
