Hello CraigWi_2640673
If your mother in law has a utility bill - this would also be accepted as proof of age. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. - Natalie

My mother in law doesn’t have a credit card, passport, or driving licence. So that’s not much help to some people.
Not everyone drives, travels, or have the need for credit cards. She’s 82 so a little unfair that only 3 items can be used.
Couldn't they use a pensioner’s bus pass.
I understand and agree with the need for the checks.
There has to be some way.

Totally agree. I used to be with GiffGaff and they asked for my passport number and it worked and was hassle free

CraigWi_2640673 This is done in an attempt to ensure that only those over 18 have access. You cannot get a credit card unless you are 18.
A debit card is available under 18 and so that is insufficient.
There are other ways to prove age and this article explains what you need to do: https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/1066648-parental-restrictions
