SIM not connecting to Volvo sensus

I have installed a data only smarty sim in a Volvo XC90 2018.  I can connect to the resultant car hotspot via my phone so I have an Internet connection.  However despite trying all the ‘resets’ of the car’s Sensus system I keep getting the ‘no Internet connection’ message on Spotify and apps.  I understand this might mean I need to get my Sensus system brought up to date by Volvo so that it can recognise 4G - can anyone confirm if this is correct? I think I need 3.7?

MikeGatt_661650 I think that you'll need to check this out with Volvo themselves. I had one but it had the current OS and not Sensus. Knowing Volvo, you'll almost certainly need the current software version - and that may be a task in itself!

MikeGatt_661650 You say you have an internet connection, and then say you see no internet connection. Is your phone showing something like 'Connected, no internet'? Are you able to see mobile network connection details in the car? If possible, you might need to set APN settings in the car; details here: Using the internet after you've joined SMARTY | SMARTY Help Centre. Is the issue only with Spotify?

Yes my phone can connect to the car’s hot spot and get an Internet connection which shows the sim is working but the Sensus screen says no Internet connection which is a different matter - I understand it to be a problem with the software level and being old it can’t handle 4G and expects 3G

MikeGatt_661650 3G has been turned off everywhere for all Mobile Network Operators (and their MVNOs), so if your car only connects to 3G, you won't be able to use it. I doubt a software update will let you connect to 4G, as 4G needs a compatible modem for it to work.

If your phone connects to the access point and gets internet, then I assume it is fine (apart from Spotify)? Can you access any apps, or browse the internet on your phone just fine?
